OxO Android connection tips

There are a few reasons for WiFi disconnects and we need to work out if it is the environment, the controlling device or the OxO.

OxO while using

  • Set it to record at 1080 x 30fps. There is no advantage in 60fps and the difference between 1080 and 4K is imperceptible even on a big screen. The only reason to record in 4K is is you want to extract a still frame and enlarge it a lot. However as you can take stills with the OxO, this is a better way of doing it. Filming at 4K does increase the bandwidth substantially and some devices cannot cope with the amount of data they are receiving.
  • Make sure that the rubber HDMI socket cover is removed during filming. When that is in place the camera can overheat and shut down to protect itself.
  • Try a different SD card. They can deteriorate over time. Also reformat the card https://help.evident.co.uk/article/30-oxo-card-format and ensure that the SD card is of a recommended type https://help.evident.co.uk/article/31-oxo-sd-card The OxO needs high specification SD cards not larger than 64GB to operate properly.
  • The latest OxO camera firmware is 9.6.3.25. Check which one you have under device info in the app. It may help to upgrade - instructions at https://help.evident.co.uk/article/29-firmware-upgrade

Android device

  • Sometimes the WiFi network needs to be forgotten and then reconnected. Advice on this is at the end of this article https://help.evident.co.uk/article/58-oxo-wifi-connection-issue and choose 'Always connect'.
  • It is worth trying another Android device e.g. a mobile to see if this happens with this or even an Apple device - software can be downloaded from the AppStore searching for OxO 4K. This will help identify if it is the tablet you are using.
  • Check that you have the latest version on your device - it is 1.13.1 for Android - you can download the latest version at https://evident.app.box.com/v/oxo4k-android-v2412
  • Make sure that the device is not too far away from the OxO. A few metres is OK.
