Using bulkEZ PLUS for the first time

Here is some useful information and hints and tips for using bulkEZ PLUS

It is very important that:

    • you bleed the syringe the first time it is used. This is normal for all of this type of syringe.
    • to leave the tip on until the next time you use it. There is no need to bleed the syringe each time you change a tip.
    • just before 'squirting' it into the cavity a small amount should be expressed through the tip to make sure that it is mixing properly.
    • any wastage from doing this and in the mixing tip is made up by having a 6gm syringe as opposed to the more normal 5gm.
    • there is wastage in building up a composite the conventional way - often it is overfilled and the excess removed with a hand instrument before curing. With bulkEZ PLUS you can fill just to the required level.
    • Place the material from the base of the cavity up, filling the cavity. This should be done as quickly as possible.
    • Any adaptation of the material at the gel stage should be carried out moving from the material to the tooth so as not to drag material away from the margins.
    • DO NOT LIGHT CURE bulkEZ PLUS AT ALL UNTIL FULLY SET. This will cause shrinkage towards the light just like any other composite that has been deeply filled in one go. Any shrinkage that occurs due to the dual cure is towards the tooth, hence the absence of microleakage.
    • it can be very difficult to light cure any bonding agent fully due to undercuts etc. If this happens bulkEZ PLUS will give catalyst to Prelude ONE to finish off the cure. This may happen with other bonds as well but has been proven with Prelude ONE.
    • Prelude ONE is a great universal bond and can be used with total etch (etch and rinse), self etch and selective etch. It is a very advanced bond with the added advantage of a very thin film thickness.
    • As Prelude ONE is lightly filled, the bottle or single use container must be shaken before use. The least expensive way to buy it is in the 5ml bottle. Dispense directly on to a microbrush, not into a Dappens dish as this wastes product.
    • bulkEZ PLUS must never be light cured during setting. Light curing is only to cure the few micron air inhibited layer on the surface if necessary. If it is being capped with another composite, do not light cure this layer as it will cure as soon as the other composite blocks out the air and create a very strong bond between the two.
